The Marines are Here

>> Friday, October 29, 2010

It was weeks ago that I was wishing for them to come.  I am so glad my prayer was answered as they are here now.  I feel secure now.  They have helped maintain the peace and order here a few years ago I hope they can make the same feat again.  The situation here has stabilized a bit.  The killings stopped.  I don’t know about the robbery but so far, I have not heard about it anymore.  Are the criminals afraid of the marines?  I hope so.  Now I can go home without fear already.
Good thing we have a mayor with strong political will.  He employed the help of these brave guys despite the opposition of some of the members of the city council.  I do not know why others are opposed to the coming of marines here.  They have not done any human rights violation the last time they were here.  They were so courteous when they inspect the vehicles going in and out of the city.  So I do not see any reason for not letting them stay here again.  For so long as you are a law abiding citizen, there is no reason for you to be afraid of the authorities as they are here to protect the people and not just the interest of the few.

Semester Break Here I Come

>> Thursday, October 21, 2010

Hurray!  After two grueling weeks of not being able to sleep, now I can say that I can finally relax my tired mind and body.  I had my last exam earlier in Political Law.  It feels like I am in heaven right now.  Although the feeling is not absolute happiness as I still have to pass 30 digested cases in Criminal Law on Tuesday and 4 digested cases in Statutory Construction; deadline will be on Saturday.   The last requirement was given to us only yesterday.  Maybe it was just an afterthought of the professor.  And I am laboring on it right now but since my hand is aching, I had to stop writing for a while because you know guys; I have to do it handwritten on a long coupon bond.

I don’t like writing in a coupon bond as it has no lines.  My words will get as high as the peak of Mt. Apo without the lines.  I wished that she let us write it on yellow pad.  I am more comfortable with it.  Well, anyway I am not the boss so I have to follow the instruction.

I am thinking of a worry-free semester break.  I have plans of going to General Santos next weekend to buy books for the second semester.  I have to read in advance to prepare myself for the battle as my professor in Criminal Law 2 would be no less than the Dean himself.  I know of his reputation.  I have heard stories like when one of his students was not able to answer during a recitation he told the student to look outside the window.  Their conversation more or less went like this:

Professor:  Look outside the window, what do you see?
Student:   Nothing sir because it is very dark outside.
Professor:  That is your future in the college of law!

See, how embarrassing that might be on the student.   If I am that student, I would have killed myself in front of him due to humiliation hehehe... I don’t know if it really happened but a lot of students say the same thing.  So I think this not just an urban legend, it really happened in the past.  I would need more than just luck next semester.  I need your prayers.

Another Allergy Attack

>> Saturday, October 16, 2010

I have been trying to sleep for four hours now but with no success. I do not feel good at all. My neck starts to feel itchy then my ears look very red. The itchiness goes down to my back and arms and then I feel my face starts to thicken and I feel tightness inside my chest. Oh my God, this is the moment that I hated most. This is a manifestation that I am having another allergy attack!

When this reality dawned to me, I immediately scratch my arm to make the rashes visible. I would rather that it would manifest outside my body than have it inside. I was told that it is dangerous to internal organs especially the heart as it would inflame it and it causes the tightness that a person under allergy attack feels.

I am thinking what triggers it again. I have not eaten anything unusual today except for a bar of chocolate. I am not allergic to chocolate as far as I know only with danggit and crabs. These two happens to be my favorite food. It breaks my heart to think I can’t have them when I want to. When I was working in a private company, crabs used to be always present in our menu when we have our meeting. I do not worry about allergy attack since I always bring antihistamine with me. Speaking of it, I groped for it inside my bag only to be appalled because the pocket where I put my medicine was empty. I immediately searched inside my ever reliable Power Puff Girls container. I was greatly relieved to find two precious tablets.

Actually, I am feeling drowsy now. It is the effect of that medicine. My body still feels very itchy but I am patient to wait for the medicine to take its full effect.

Overcoming an Obstacle

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of NMEDA. All opinions are 100% mine.

It is a sad fact that some of our fellow human beings are born with physical infirmities.  Everyday as I go to work, I always notice some of them on the road making a living despite the difficulty of doing it.   I also have a classmate in college who was born without legs.  He is just so lucky to have friends who carry him everyday he goes to class who happened to be in the third floor of the building but his physical condition did not stop him from his quest of getting a degree.  He graduated, got a job and proved to the world that he can do it like anybody who has a complete set of limbs.   His courage is worth emulating.  This inspiring person does not deserve the difficulty he had experienced.

That is why NMEDA exists for persons like him.  It is a non-profit trade association that aims to make life easier for people with infirmities through educating the consumers about products from a NMEDA qualified dealer since 1989.  This association is composed of mobility dealers, manufacturers and rehabilitation professionals that adhere to the safety standards of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  They support the goal of providing safe, modified and reliable vehicles to give convenience to disabled persons.  Their member manufacturers and dealers produce and sell handicap vans and modified the same for disabled persons.  They customize these vans depending on the needs of every disabled person, helping them do things on their own without or with minimum assistance only thereby relieving their caregiver or family of the hassle of attending to their needs most of the time.  NMEDA  does not focus on disabled persons only but also on the elderly.  The products of a NMEDA dealer help improves their mobility making them independent and do things on their own.
Why choose NMEDA?  This is for the reason that it has Quality Assurance Program (QAP) dealers that is only recognized accreditation program for the Adaptive Mobility Equipment Industry.  This program sticks to the principle of satisfying customers through a systematic and documented approach to quality.
Visit nmeda.org to know qualified dealers near your location and help our disabled love ones gain the road to independence.

Send in the Marines

>> Saturday, October 9, 2010

The peace and order is getting worse.  The criminals are having a field day these days.  Two weeks ago, a nurse was gang raped and last night, another Chinese businesswoman was kidnapped and her driver and escort were shot to death and not to mention the killings that happen almost everyday.  I am getting desperate.  The crime rate is escalating to an unbelievable rate.  We are living in a culture of fear and continue to live like nothing happened.  All we can do is sigh and watch the events as they unfold and hope that it will be the last.

I really want to leave this place.  A month ago, my friend’s family business was robbed and until now, it still remains unsolved.  Yesterday, the Secretary of Justice, Sec. Leila De Lima herself went here  to meet with the prosecutors.  Everytime I heard this news of crimes, my heart sank but I cannot do anything about it.  Everyday I live in fear that somebody might snatch my bag or my cellphone.   Well, I already became a victim of pick pocketing.  I hope nothing worse would happen again.

Whoever calls this place a City of Peace is crazy, this is a city of crimes. Oh please God, send in the Marines!

My Day at Work

>> Monday, September 20, 2010

I went home tired from working all day.  My shoulders hurt.  I really want to go to school to attend my classes but unfortunately, I feel so dead tired.  I texted my friend and asked if we have class.  So fortunate of me because we do not have classes in both of my two subjects tonight.  Now I can relax my body and take a nap.

Tomorrow will be another day of struggle to finish my task before the deadline comes.  I wish I can tell you about it but since it is work related, it has to be confidential.  I cannot divulge the details.  Sorry guys.  But I can tell you that from time to time, I witness a lot of corrupt people in my line of work.  I am very lucky because I have a boss who does not approve of this incurable disease of our society.  Corruption is our country is as famous as Manny Pacquiao in the boxing world.  It is very disappointing.  Just this afternoon, I overheard her admonishing the person because of his “proposal” in exchange for a favor to be bestowed on their part.   If only all the government heads are like her, maybe there would be no such thing as corruption in the Philippines.

Exam Week

>> Monday, September 6, 2010

Just done with my Criminal Law exam for midterm. The MCQs are quite harder than essay. This will be the format of the bar exam next year. One of my professors said that the bar will be 60% MCQs and 40% essay. Wow, this is kind of hard. You cannot just choose as all of the choices are plausible enough to believe as the right answer. The MCQs gave me a headache actually.

It’s a good thing I don’t have an exam tomorrow. I have a lot of time to do my papers on Legal Research and Foundation of Laws subjects. As of the moment, I try to relax and my idea of relaxing is playing a Frontier Ville on Facebook. This is the only game I play since June. This is some sort of deviation to entertain myself and forget for a while the rigors of studying and working. I am sort of living a double life being an employee by day and a student at night. And oh this reminds me, I have to get copies of the latest COMELEC Resolutions for our exclusion cases set on September 15, 2010 after the Ramadan. I also have to look for some books that I would need in some of my subjects. I am getting impatient too. My sister has not yet bought the book that I would use in my political law. Actually, I already have one but unfortunately, I feel like the author is from another planet that I do not get what he says. I want to have a book of an author that I am most comfortable with and that’s Rolando Suarez.

I guess I have to stop now. I am getting sleepy and I am running out of things to say today. Good night guys.

An Appeal to the People of Hong Kong

>> Saturday, August 28, 2010

I want to start this by apologizing to the family of the victims of the unfortunate hostage drama that took place last August 23, 2010.  Since the incident happened, I could hear nothing but our top people blaming each other for what happened.  For this, I want you to know that I am not happy for what these people are doing. However, I was not there so it is not for me to pass any judgment on who was at fault as I am not an expert as most of us are.

We are all humans and as such, all of us share the feelings that every human is capable of.  We are all capable of feeling anger if we witness that our fellowmen are being subjected to atrocities.  I understand your emotion and I sympathize and pray for your loved ones who were innocent victims of Captain Rolando Mendoza.  I know the feeling of losing a loved one.  However, let us bear in mind that only a number of people are responsible for it and not the whole citizenry of my country Philippines.  We should not blame everyone for the fault of one person.  Not every Filipino is responsible for the hostage crisis.  Jackie Chan is right and I admire him for being open-minded.

I have heard of the news about Filipino workers being dismissed from their respective jobs because they are Filipinos, of a family of Filipino tourists who went to visit your beautiful place only to be treated cruelly and being spit at.   Like you, we are also not in control of everything that happened.  They have done nothing to deserve such treatment.  Please do not hate all of us because of this mishap.  If you believe that there is somebody to be blamed, bring your grievance to the proper court and collect for the damages that you think the responsible individuals owe you.

Once again, I am appealing for your indulgence and humbly asking for your forgiveness for what had happened.

SMARTBRO Connection Sucks!

I am so busy guys.  I have a lot of things to look up on the net but sadly, my internet connection is not cooperating.  I had this problem since Saturday and it is one week now.  I already called the customer service but I was only told to observe my connection since they cannot determine the cause.  I cannot access the 3G connection and their representative just told me to used the slower than snail GPRS.  It sucks!  Imagine it would take me 15 to 20 minutes just to open my e-mail?  It is taking up all my patience and sometimes I feel like going amuck because of this poor service of Smartbro since last week.

When I first avail of their service, I was very impressed because it was fast.  I can view a video without encountering any problem.  My problem started only last Saturday.  I was disappointed because I am paying on time and yet, the service I am getting does not commensurate my effort to pay my bill.  I feel cheated.  I am getting agitated because the midterm is fast approaching and I have yet to research for my Legal Research and Foundations of Law.  This afternoon, I called again to inquire about the present status of my internet connection and I was told to go to the nearest Smart Business Center to have my modem checked.  If they have told me earlier than let me wait this long, I have addressed my problem earlier too.  I have to wait for another two days since tomorrow is Sunday and Monday is also holiday.  For the meantime, I have to deal with the slower than snail GPRS connection.   I hope they could resolve my connection issue and have my 3G connection restored sooner.
By the way, just posting this entry here took me two hours to do as compared before that I could do it in less than five minutes.  See the difference?

Weekend Party

>> Saturday, August 7, 2010

I went home tired but unable to sleep. We had our Welcome Toast and Testimonial Dinner at the pool side of Estosan Garden Hotel earlier this evening. Atty. Del Rosario my professor in Legal Research welcomed us freshman by way of a toast with a very sweet red wine. I love the taste so much! Can we have a toast again? Hehehehe. Our Dean welcomed us too. The freshmen (and that includes me) were called one by one and we stood up and walked around like models as the upper class are watching. It was so nerve wracking that when I reached my seat, I was sweating a lot although the weather was cold.

We also had a new lawyer as an honoree. She passed the bar examination that was given last September of 2009; while the typhoon Ondoy was thrashing our country to destruction and catastrophe. I admired her because despite of being sick while in the middle of her review, she was able to make it. The way I look at her, she was so down to earth. She has no aura of being a show off that says, “hey, I am a lawyer you should respect me”. I like her. I hope someday, I can be like her too. That is, if I survived my freshman year at the college of law. As of now, I am still struggling to adjust myself and it is not easy. I find it difficult to memorize everything. Although I read a lot but I have problem with retaining what I have read. Sometimes after reading for two hours and then I would stop and think about what I read, it feels like I never read at all. I hope my adjustment time will not last long. Gladly, as these passed by, I can now feel that I am a student. It is difficult for the truth to sink in my mind because It was ten years ago that I graduated from my previous course. It is not easy really.

Socialspark_small

It has been five months since I started this blog and despite my very busy schedule, I am trying my best to update my posts. Two days ago, a friend of mine suggested that I should try to monetize my blog. In that way, I will enjoy writing and at the same time get paid for it. I thought it was a good idea so I accepted her suggestion and asked her for some blog marketing sites that she herself is using. It was from her that I learned about SocialSpark.

That night following our conversation, I immediately look up for SocialSpark. I found it easily in a matter of seconds. Then I signed up and registered my blog and waited for their verification. I did not encounter any problem about registering. The instructions were so easy nothing technical at all. I did it for only 10 minutes. I was a little excited but not expecting too much that it will be noticed immediately by the administrator of SocialSpark. However only thirty minutes ago I received a notification while checking my e-mails that this blog was already approved. I am so happy. I felt like all weariness has vanished into thin air with this good news. Thank you SocialSpark for approving my blog, I am looking forward to work on the diverse opportunities with you.

If someone out there is also planning to monetize her website, try to Sign up for SocialSpark today. You will not regret it.
