An Appeal to the People of Hong Kong

>> Saturday, August 28, 2010

I want to start this by apologizing to the family of the victims of the unfortunate hostage drama that took place last August 23, 2010.  Since the incident happened, I could hear nothing but our top people blaming each other for what happened.  For this, I want you to know that I am not happy for what these people are doing. However, I was not there so it is not for me to pass any judgment on who was at fault as I am not an expert as most of us are.

We are all humans and as such, all of us share the feelings that every human is capable of.  We are all capable of feeling anger if we witness that our fellowmen are being subjected to atrocities.  I understand your emotion and I sympathize and pray for your loved ones who were innocent victims of Captain Rolando Mendoza.  I know the feeling of losing a loved one.  However, let us bear in mind that only a number of people are responsible for it and not the whole citizenry of my country Philippines.  We should not blame everyone for the fault of one person.  Not every Filipino is responsible for the hostage crisis.  Jackie Chan is right and I admire him for being open-minded.

I have heard of the news about Filipino workers being dismissed from their respective jobs because they are Filipinos, of a family of Filipino tourists who went to visit your beautiful place only to be treated cruelly and being spit at.   Like you, we are also not in control of everything that happened.  They have done nothing to deserve such treatment.  Please do not hate all of us because of this mishap.  If you believe that there is somebody to be blamed, bring your grievance to the proper court and collect for the damages that you think the responsible individuals owe you.

Once again, I am appealing for your indulgence and humbly asking for your forgiveness for what had happened.

SMARTBRO Connection Sucks!

I am so busy guys.  I have a lot of things to look up on the net but sadly, my internet connection is not cooperating.  I had this problem since Saturday and it is one week now.  I already called the customer service but I was only told to observe my connection since they cannot determine the cause.  I cannot access the 3G connection and their representative just told me to used the slower than snail GPRS.  It sucks!  Imagine it would take me 15 to 20 minutes just to open my e-mail?  It is taking up all my patience and sometimes I feel like going amuck because of this poor service of Smartbro since last week.

When I first avail of their service, I was very impressed because it was fast.  I can view a video without encountering any problem.  My problem started only last Saturday.  I was disappointed because I am paying on time and yet, the service I am getting does not commensurate my effort to pay my bill.  I feel cheated.  I am getting agitated because the midterm is fast approaching and I have yet to research for my Legal Research and Foundations of Law.  This afternoon, I called again to inquire about the present status of my internet connection and I was told to go to the nearest Smart Business Center to have my modem checked.  If they have told me earlier than let me wait this long, I have addressed my problem earlier too.  I have to wait for another two days since tomorrow is Sunday and Monday is also holiday.  For the meantime, I have to deal with the slower than snail GPRS connection.   I hope they could resolve my connection issue and have my 3G connection restored sooner.
By the way, just posting this entry here took me two hours to do as compared before that I could do it in less than five minutes.  See the difference?

Weekend Party

>> Saturday, August 7, 2010

I went home tired but unable to sleep. We had our Welcome Toast and Testimonial Dinner at the pool side of Estosan Garden Hotel earlier this evening. Atty. Del Rosario my professor in Legal Research welcomed us freshman by way of a toast with a very sweet red wine. I love the taste so much! Can we have a toast again? Hehehehe. Our Dean welcomed us too. The freshmen (and that includes me) were called one by one and we stood up and walked around like models as the upper class are watching. It was so nerve wracking that when I reached my seat, I was sweating a lot although the weather was cold.

We also had a new lawyer as an honoree. She passed the bar examination that was given last September of 2009; while the typhoon Ondoy was thrashing our country to destruction and catastrophe. I admired her because despite of being sick while in the middle of her review, she was able to make it. The way I look at her, she was so down to earth. She has no aura of being a show off that says, “hey, I am a lawyer you should respect me”. I like her. I hope someday, I can be like her too. That is, if I survived my freshman year at the college of law. As of now, I am still struggling to adjust myself and it is not easy. I find it difficult to memorize everything. Although I read a lot but I have problem with retaining what I have read. Sometimes after reading for two hours and then I would stop and think about what I read, it feels like I never read at all. I hope my adjustment time will not last long. Gladly, as these passed by, I can now feel that I am a student. It is difficult for the truth to sink in my mind because It was ten years ago that I graduated from my previous course. It is not easy really.
